Summary The Sounds of Language: Phonetics and Phonology

 focused on the sounds that make up language. We learned that in a typical speech event, 
a speaker produces sounds in the vocal tract. These sounds are then heard by listeners who then
 interpret the sounds.
We learned that phonetics is the study of speech, and we looked at not only how the sounds are
 produced in the vocal tract, but also how to describe them (voicing, manner of articulation, and
